Signs + Symptoms of a Kundalini Awakening

Here is a list I’ve compiled based on my personal experience, research, time as a client to various Kundalini therapists, and interactions with clients undergoing Kundalini awakenings. While it is not comprehensive in organization, it contains common symptoms and should serve to help you understand if you are experiencing a Kundalini awakening. Also, it can be particularly useful to understand that Kundalini awakening symptoms vary for different individuals, as well as the predominance of these symptoms. Some individuals will have one large awakening, followed by various influxes of Kundalini. Others may experience a milder process with fewer symptoms and/or less challenging symptoms than others might encounter.

-An increased interest in spirituality and/or religion.

-Having beautiful visions, dreams or experiences of divine beings or visions of heaven realms.

-Powerful experiences of oneness, bliss, divine love, and deep compassion.

-A  strong, blissful response from seeing spiritual/religious objects,  reading spiritual/religious material, or hearing spiritual/religious music…etc.

-Deepening of compassion and integrity in one’s life.

-Beautiful and powerful realizations/states of realization.

-Greater sensitivity to suffering, violence, and immoral action in oneself and others.

-Very strong experiences/reactions to devotional/spiritual practices.

-Because you’re more sensitive, and kundalini expands consciousness, you become more perceptive and in tune with peoples hidden feelings and/or motivations. (sexual impulses, greed, selfish motives..etc.

-Certain unconscious behaviors and thought-processes in oneself surface. You develop greater sensitivity to your own insecurities, challenges, and weaknesses. This can feel troublesome, but it is for the purpose of bringing  about great compassion, clarity, and growth.

-There can be a deep yearning to connect with people in a much more honest, authentic and sincere way.

-Relationships that cause more suffering than happiness often undergo great transformation, are given space to, or, if abusive and uncompromising,  are broken away from.

-The need to be in quiet or gentle atmospheres can increase. Being in bars or places where there’s a lot of indulgence or superficiality can feel intolerable or undesirable.

-Kriyas (involuntary movement of the limbs.)

-Involuntary yogic postures or mudras.

-Energy movements within the body. These can be described differently. Some may experience these as heat, contractions, dense energies or blockages in certain energy centers or areas. Some people may describe this as a snake-like energy seemingly making its way up the spine or through the energy system.

-Feelings of tingles in or around certain energy centers.

-A feeling of electricity running throughout the whole body. (like you stuck your finger in a light socket.)

-Racing thoughts/irrational or intrusive thoughts, feelings or visions. Having great anxiety, fear, or sadness that can feel uncontrollable.

-Heightened perceptions of the yogic veils or sheaths. (The  physical body, the energy body, the body made of thought processes, the  body of the intellect and higher mind, and the body of spiritual bliss.)

-Sensitivity to lights, smells, sounds, tastes, vibrations/movement…etc..can increase
-Sudden flashes of vivid, visceral visions containing past experiences or memories. (can be traumatic, troubling or otherwise.)

-A feeling like the whole body is on fire. A lot of heat/warmth.

-Heightening of psychic perception – clairaudience, clairvoyance, clairsentience, and claircognizance. (This  can mean reading or hearing people’s thoughts, just knowing certain  things about people, smelling people from ‘impossible’ distances..etc)

-Powerful dream states that contain premonitions and/or guidance (can be helpful or confusing, depending on the individual and their mindset/intentions in regards to the experience.)

-Having dark visions or dreams of demonic figures, foreign beings, or hell realms.

-States of ego-lessness, union, one-ness.

-Entering different levels of samadhi.

-Loss of ego-desires (food, sex, superficial conversation, entertainment etc..)

-Repulsion, aversion, or natural decrease in interest of things that one may have been interested in.

-Sleeplessness/insomnia (usually when excess Shakti is felt running through the body.)

-Addictions or certain unhelpful patterns in oneself drop away naturally, or they become incredibly unbearable and intolerable.
